I am pleased to announce new fencing for bungalows on Lower Ash Road has been put in place after a 12 month campaign. As the local Councillor I was concerned for the safety of the senior citizens that reside in the bungalows. A recent spike in Anti-Social behaviour had left residents terrified and vulnerable. I have spearheaded the campaign for Aspire Housing to fork out cash for the fencing to protect residents. Gladys Taylor of Lower Ash Road said “I want to thank Kyle for having this fencing put in place. Since my husband died I have been frightened in the evenings when people walk in front of my window. I now feel safe in my home and I can relax a lot better”. Over 12 months ago I promised the residents I would get the funding to install the fencing and this has now happened. I am absolutely delighted and I hope this deters Anti-Social behaviour in the future. Many thanks, Councillor Kyle Robinson.

After a long campaign fought by Labour the people of the 5 wards of Kidsgrove have dealt a damming blow to the Kidsgrove Liberal Democrats by voting out their leader Dennis Richards of Butt Lane. Kidsgrove Labour has also taken the 2 conservative seats in the Kidsgrove district. The percentage of the vote Labour received shows we have a huge mandate locally to continue on with our fight against Tory-LibDem policies that have left Kidsgrove desolate. Here is the percentage of the vote of all 5 wards for each party following today’s results. I think the current LibDem and Ukip County Councillors we have should be extremely worried about securing their seats next year after today’s results.

Total votes cast: 4798

Labour: 2770 = 57%

Conservative: 848 = 17%

Liberal Democrat: 780 = 16%

UKIP: 252 = 5%

TUSAC: 109 = 2%

Independent: 39 = 0.8%

Results for each ward are as follows:

Butt Lane Ward

Silvia Burgess Lab 676 (60% – Elected), Dennis Richards LibDem 313 (28%), Daniel Jellyman Con 128 (11%).

Kidsgrove Ward

Reg Bailey Lab 802 (66% – Elected), James Vernon Con 153 (12%), Lynda Griffiths LibDem 146 (12%), Claire Vodrey TUSAC 109 (9%).

Newchapel Ward

Elsie Bates Lab 386 (53% – Elected), Pamela Jellyman Con 248 (34%), Alan Brookes LibDem 54 (7%), Michael Prosser Indp 39 (5%).

Ravenscliffe Ward

David Stringer Lab 446 (50% – Elected), Geoff Locke UKIP 252 (28%), Stephen Blair Con 191 (21%).

Talke Ward

Mike Stubbs Lab 460 (53% – Elected), Janet Parsons LibDem 267 (31%), Nicola Ralphs Con 128 (14%).

Every single Labour candidate won their seats on the council and all received more than 50% of the vote. Thank you to the electorate of Kidsgrove for putting your trust in us. We will fight your corner and make sure Kidsgrove gets what it deserves out of Newcastle Borough Council.

Best wishes

Kyle Robinson

On Tuesday in my capacity as a Labour Councillor I met Ed Milliband Leader of the Opposition and Ed Balls the Shadow Chancellor of the United Kingdom. The two Eds came to Kidsgrove and Newcastle to discuss local issues that are affecting our community. We told them how Kidsgrove Leisure Centre had been left to rot by the Conservative-LibDem Coalition at Newcastle Borough Council whilst the Council spent £10.5 Million on the Jubilee 2. Then in 2011 we were told our Police Station would be closing down and Police response teams would be moved to Newcastle(we even mentioned how local Liberal Democrat Councillors voted to close the Police Station). We also face losing our sorting office due to new Government policy giving Royal Mail more power and freedom than ever. This has also led to massive price increases of stamps hitting families hard in difficult times. Kidsgrove has also been fighting Newcastle Borough Council to keep the Victoria Hall. Conservatives and even the leader of the Kidsgrove Liberal Democrats want to snatch the Town hall from the people to make more pounds!!! Do their greedy ways have any limits? Do they want to take everything out of Kidsgrove? Their actions speak a thousand words.

Ed and Ed believe we can make Kidsgrove a better place with fresh thinking and new ideas. They told us how pleased they were to see dedicated Labour Councillors fighting the cuts to our community and that we must continue our hard work. They believe we can change Kidsgrove and Newcastle to bring it all back to its former glory with the right people representing the area.

I try not to be political all of the time as it doesn’t always solve our problems but my last 2 years as a Borough Councillor has seen our community devastated by cuts. Its time we make a stand and get a Borough Council that cares. That’s why I urge you to Vote Labour on Thursday 3rd May. (This article has been uploaded in my capacity as a Borough Councillor and NOT as Kidsgrove Mayor).

£100,000 has been secured for repairs to be made to Kidsgrove Swimming baths thanks to a Labour Campaign. The repairs will take place in a matter of months and should be completed by the end of June. Back in October the ceiling at Kidsgrove Swimming baths collapsed meaning residents have been left without swimming facilities for months. Kidsgrove and Butt Lane Councillors applied pressure for something to be done urgently and within weeks Newcastle Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council met at the site. It has taken nearly 6 months for the funding to be agreed but we are very pleased the baths will be open for summer.

Now we want to know what Newcastle Borough Council is going to do for the long term. It’s ok patching up maintenance issues but in the long run we are going to have the same problems. If we can spend £10.5 million on a sports centre in Newcastle then surely we can spend some on Kidsgrove Leisure centre. We are not going to be the poor neighbour anymore and we would like answers from the Tory-LibDem coalition that runs Newcastle Borough Council.
